Kids running, laughing, and playing together on the playground just feels right. But for children with long-term illnesses stuck in hospital, simple playtime is often limited, robbing them of everyday joy. Thankfully, the Playright has brought play to sick kids in local hospitals since 1994. Professional play specialists support children from birth to 18 through treatment and recovery with gentle, joyful play.

We believe that all children have the right to play, no matter their situation. So we collaborated with Playright to initiate a three-year programme at Caritas Medical Centre-Developmental Disabilities Unit (DDV) & Pediatric Ventilator-Assisted Care (PVAC): “Project Sunshine: Let Children in DDU Been Seen, Been Vauled”. It helps long-term hospitalised kids feel seen, valued, and able to experience the comfort of play.

Along with custom play activities for young patients, we also host parent-child workshops. These help families understand how meaningful play is for their children, while making warm, precious memories together.

Our “Uplifting Vitality – Elderly Wellness & Sarcopenia Prevention Programme”, a collaboration between the Foundation and Christian Family Service Center (CFSC), is rooted in a simple belief: every elder deserves dignity, independence and joy. We’ve created a prevention model focused on preserving their sense of autonomy—vital for both mobility and mental wellness.

Besides tailored wellness activities, CFSC's multi-disciplinary team provides discharged elders and their families with professional assessments and consultations—helping prevent premature institutionalization and ease caregiver stress. The programme aims to raise awareness that protecting autonomy and preventing sarcopenia safeguards elders’ quality of life.

We have also invited young-old volunteers to form a service team called the ‘Uplifting Vitality Ambassadors’, to assist elderly participants in need and help them build a support network. The programme offers physical training and mental health courses as rewards, with the aim of encouraging young-old volunteers to prioritise their own vitality at an early stage and gradually develop their mobility and sense of independence.

Cancer drug costs can be overwhelming, and for some Hong Kong patients—especially those on low incomes—missing coverage or reimbursement means they must pay out of pocket. This can affect both physical recovery and emotional well-being.

Together with Information.com.hk Charity Foundation, we launched the Cancer Drug Subsidy Program for Hong Kong Patients—Hong Kong’s first pilot initiative to provide cross-border cancer medication subsidy for patients in need. Under the programme, eligible low-income cancer patients receive 12-month of cancer drug subsidy, supporting them in purchasing cancer medications for treatment at The University of Hong Kong–Shenzhen Hospital and other designated healthcare institutions. We also provide case follow-up and service referrals.

We also arrange volunteer escorts to support patients traveling to mainland hospitals and help build a peer support network. Through educational seminars, we share clear treatment information and address common misunderstandings about accessing cancer drugs across the border—so patients and families can move forward with confidence and hope.

The ‘Improving Access to Community Treatment Services’ (iACT) programme is a three-year initiative implemented in partnership with MindHK. Its primary objective is to make reliable and research-proven mental health support more accessible to the people of Hong Kong.

Individuals with mild to moderate mental health challenges (including depression, anxiety and emotional distress) will receive support via Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). The programme targets Hong Kong adults aged 18+, with a focus on vulnerable groups: ethnic minorities, working young people, parents and carers from high-stress, low-income households. The programme aims to support the well-being practitioners through a comprehensive training course designed to equip them with practical skills. To gain practical experience, these trainees will be placed in various organisations to provide free, structured, short-term psychological support to those in need.

With the rise of various vulnerable population such as aging, chronic diseases, mental illness, SEN children and various kinds of disability, the population of caregivers in Hong Kong is definitely tremendous nowadays. These caregivers bear long-term care responsibilities, often under heavy pressure with little emotional support. A 2021 HKCSS survey estimated there are around 1.12 million caregivers in Hong Kong, yet Hospital Authority data shows new patients wait over 90 weeks for psychiatric specialist outpatient appointments, a worrying situation that demands our attention.

In partnership with Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service and The Mental Health Association of Hong Kong, we’ve launched a three-year project: Mental Health Support Programme - Care You Fund. It aims to support these caregivers and vulnerable individuals. We offer psychological assessments, treatments, hotline consultations, and psychological interventions. We regularly organise wellness and mental health activities for participants, including online courses, workshops and wellbeing initiatives. Additionally, we host peer support networks to facilitate connections with established caregiving services.

The growing number of children with special educational needs (SEN) faces long waits for diagnostic assessments in public institutions, delaying essential early identification services and increasing family burdens, while low-income families cannot afford private care.

"Healthy Kiddo Special Educational Needs Children Support Programme" is a 3-year project, which partnership with Healthy Kiddo Limited. It is composed of a group of professionals from various sectors, including psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and educators. Its aim to genuinely enhance children's well-being through various interventions, allowing them to grow healthily in a joyful environment. At the same time, we integrate existing social resources and collaborates with other service organizations to address current service gaps and limitations. The programme subsidized needy families with children suspected of having SEN to undergo assessment by qualified clinical or educational psychologists. Also, the training and treatment are provided to reduce symptoms and reduce emotional and behavioral problems related to SEN.
